Add Curved Grid, Radius

Default shortcut: g + r
Locate one point and enter a radius to create a curved grid line.

1 . Click the Add Curved Grid, Radius icon, which is pictured above. The icon can be found on the Layout page > Views/Grids section.

Alternative: Invoke Add Curved Grid, Radius using the Find Tool by searching the command name and clicking the icon, which is pictured above.

2 . The status line prompts, "Locate radius point". Various locators become active along with Locate - Pan - Return mouse bindings. Left-click (Locate) to add a radius point.

Alternative: Press Esc or right-click (Return) to end the command.

3 . The Add Curved Erection View window opens. You must enter a name in the View name field and a non-zero dimensional value in the Radius field. When you are done adjusting the settings, click OK.

Alternative: Press Esc or click Cancel to repeat step 2.

4 . A temporary construction circle is drawn on screen. Various locators become active along with Locate - Pan - Return mouse bindings. The status line prompts, "Locate arc point 1".

If Arc was selected in step 3: Left-click (Locate) point 1 somewhere along the construction circle. This point is the end of the grid line. The status line prompts, "Locate arc point 2". Left-click (Locate) the opposite end of the grid line somewhere along the construction circle. The arc line is drawn counterclockwise between these two points.

If Circle was selected in step 3: Left-click (Locate) point 1 somewhere along the construction circle. This point locates the grid bubble for the circular grid line.

Alternative 1: If the name in the View name field matches an existing erection view or curved grid line, you will be prompted to verify the replacement of the existing view/grid. Click Yes to replace the existing view/grid. Click No to cancel the replacement and repeat step 2.

Alternative 2: Press Esc or right-click (Return) to repeat step 2.

5 . The new curved grid line is added to your model. The status line prompts, "Locate radius point", allowing you to continue adding curved grid lines beginning at step 2.

Alternative: Press Esc or right-click (Return) to end the command.

  • Unlike straight grid lines, which can be added using Add Grid Line, curved grid lines cannot be opened as views.
  • Curved grid lines also cannot be auto detailed as erection views. They can, however, be drawn on other erection views when you Detail Erection Views and choose to Annotate erection views.
  • Curved grid lines can also be snapped to for point location using Locate options such as INCM and INCL.
